Celebrating your child’s coming of age is indeed an exciting and memorable time. It is also a time filled with emotions, especially when there are dear loved ones who will not be attending as they have passed. There are a number of ways you can remember loved ones, from lighting a candle for them to remembering them in prayer.
Many of my customers have asked me to include an ‘in memory of’ page within their L’Chaim! personalised Simcha magazine. This certainly is a very special way to ensure that they are remembered on the day and are able to play a part in the Simcha too.
Finn’s Bar mitzvah certainly was a fun occasion, with a baseball theme and lots of guests attending, but it was also a time to remember those family members who were absent.
Finn’s family asked me to include a poem along with some photos to remember the loved ones that they had lost.
Your son or daughter may wish to write a message for each person who has passed, a letter to them to say what they have learned from them and what they would like to say to them if they were here to celebrate today.
Hot tip: perhaps you will reserve a chair with their photo to represent them attending your Simcha.
You may wish to include a selection of photos as happy memories inside your child’s personalised Simcha magazine if you feel you cannot find the words to express yourself, and there isn’t a poem or prayer that says what you feel. A photo collage within your personalised magazine will inspire a conversation of memories amongst your guests.
Hot tip: you may like to include a special space at your Simcha for those who have passed. Light a candle for them and display their photos, this will help to reinforce the feeling that they are with you and your family on this important day.
We'd love to hear from you
